Be it your hectic work load, the stressful chores or the urge to put a break in this monotonous life, often it seems tempting to book a long summer holiday and forget about it all. For those of you who love to get active and have a goal, it’s important to remember there’s more to travelling than just that.
Not convinced? Here’s how planning or attending an event in a new city can help you blow off steam and get stuff done at the same time.
Travel Broadens the Mind
Whether you decide to venture abroad or stay in your home country, travel always broadens the mind. There’s nothing like doing away with the status quo to challenge your assumptions and perceptions. Simply by spending time in a different community, you can gain an appreciation of a different way of doing things. Take the good bits home with you and you have the recipe for an even happier home life!
You’ll also find that you enjoy your home life even more for having had a short break from it. You don’t have to be away for weeks at a time to enjoy the feeling of getting home. Often a short city break or a long weekend away are just enough.
What You Do When You Get There Can Make All the Difference
If you’re someone who gets bored of the idea of a long two week break to the beach, then don’t worry. The same goes for those of you who like to stay busy and can’t spare two weeks in one go. Hosting an event is a great way to occupy yourself, and doing it away from home will add to the challenge and the satisfaction.
In fact, because you’ll need to do plenty of planning in advance for it to go off without a hitch you’ll feel more motivated at home. This is ideal for those of you who want to de-stress and relax a little bit more in the evenings. Rather than checking your email or rewriting that report you can focus your energy on planning something bigger than the day to day stuff. Ideal for giving you something to focus on in the medium to long term.
Taking Time Out Actually Makes You More Efficient
If you don’t think time out matters then think again! A break could be in the form of a simple 20 minute coffee and a catch up, or it could be a long weekend or a project you plan on the side.
The secret is to remove yourself from the status quo and break with what you do at work. Perhaps you have a dream of turning one of your hobbies into the way you make a living? Or are you more inclined to travel for the pure enjoyment of it?
Take a little time to think what fits your personality best and then take things from there. Remember, this should be fun and stress-free, so you can take your time over it. There are no prizes for rushing into something and then staying the course despite having fallen out of love with it. Don’t be afraid to experiment a little bit so that you find something that really makes you feel alive again.
Travel Only Happens if You Plan it
The key here is to organise your life so that travelling naturally fits in. It may feel a little alien to you at first, but the better you weave it into the fabric of your life the more likely you are to do it. Don’t be afraid to move things around and reassign priorities. In the long run, travel will broaden the mind and destress you; two things that will go a long way to improving your quality of life.
